Jimmy (popping) Smith still popping, pics L@@K carnage.
« on: September 07, 2010, 11:14:54 AM »
Well we pulled the motor from the 67 popping camaro this weekend and disassembled it and found something really strange on 2 of the pistons. Take a look at the pics and see what you all think , no one has any ideas what has caused this nor I. Not even sure this has any reflection on the popping. The pictures arent the best but is looks like someone sandblasted the piston away in the affected area.

  • Oops, it's crappie season.
Are yall talking about on the oil gland, isn't that cut out when they drill the hole for the pin?   [dunno]

I don't see anything that would make it pop.  [dunno]

dodgeman the other 7 piston have aluminum supporting the oil ring as this one does not.

moparboy , it hasint hit anything , piston doesnt come that far out of the hole .

One of the other pistons is almost like this one it just hasnt made its way all the way threw yet.

But the best way to describe it is someone sandblasted away the ring land.  The other 6 pistons are smooth in this area and have aluminum supporting the ring land.

Sunday, my car was popping all the way down the track during time trials. The plugs showed signs of being too lean. We had 88s all the way around. Changed to 89s and 90s and the car quit popping and picked up a tenth. Of course we also changed plugs too, just in case.
